Necklace Underway/Postcard

This week:
10 hours painting and attaching corals to the necklace
1 hour doing finishing work on the inside of the ring
15 minutes photographing pieces
2 hours working on postcard

This week I did a lot of documenting because the postcard is due. Thank you, Peter for all of your help! The necklace is coming along, but I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to. I included what my postcard is looking like right now, but I am not certain if this is the final product. I still have until Monday to decide. I've also been thinking about naming the project, and I kind of want to name it "Zooxanthellae," which is the protozoa that coral depends on to grow. Death of Zooxanthellae=death of coral. The only thing about that title is that I have trouble pronouncing it, and I feel like that isn't a good sign.... anyways I've also been thinking about postcard quotes and right now I'm leaning toward "You don't drown by falling in the water; you drown by staying there."- Edwin Louis Cole. So I guess those will be my major decisions for the weekend.

  1. These look beautiful! Not sure which is the postcard image but both look great. As for the title, it's a nice sounding word, but no one will know what it means so you have to think about whether you want people to think about the death of coral or if you simply want people to respond to the beauty of the coral, which you have definitely captured. One thing that I think about your project is that buy making the coral into wearable art you have connected us to it, connected humans and coral in a way that is intimate. Wearing it is like a reminder about our connections to nature. And we came from the water many millions of years ago. So maybe something like origins or something that resonates with this deep connections we have....just a thought...
Also, i like the quote, but is your project really about drowning? It's humans that are destroying the coral, not that fact that it stayed in the water. don't know if this is relevant, but just my musings.
