Spy Book

This week:
1 hour cutting and finishing steel book covers
2 1/2 hours cutting and folding books pages
1/2 hour sewing book pages together
2 hours working on box

I don't have a picture this second because I forgot my camera, but I will take one later and add it to the post. My goal for Thanksgiving weekend is to write the entire coded story inside of the book and have the book itself bound. I will continue work on the box when I get back after this weekend.

New Book!

Last week:
3 1/2 hours working on this box for my new book
4 hours writing my grant proposal

I finally started a new book, and it is going well so far. This one is based on the wheel cypher shown in the photograph. I am making the book out of steel because I think it implies that it holds something super important or "top secret." The memory that this goes back to is how I spent a good deal of my childhood pretending to be a spy. It actually got kind of pathetic. I am going to write the book (which will actually be an excerpt from a mystery story I wrote when I was young) in code using the wheel cypher.

Finished(ish) Book

Last week I spent:
4 hours making this box
1 hour drilling a hole in the rock on top of it (yes really)
2 hours sketching and finalizing ideas for my next book

Well once I finally finished this box, I tried to close it and realized that it's not going to work. the paper made the top too thick and it does not open with ease, so I plan to convert it to a clamshell style box instead which should be a looser fit. I m going to go ahead and start my next project though because I have been working on this same thing for a little too long and need a break. Next on my agenda is to start welding because my next book will be made of steel!
